Compliance

All QP 1394-1995/a-2000 PHY testing services are based on a detailed compliance test matrix (178 pages long). Comprehensive test results are reported in a 130-page results document. Comprehensive tests also include a separate issues document detailing each issue. The test matrix includes:

  • All transmit and receive analog parameters
  • All transmit and receive timing parameters
  • All digital logic states - Bus reset, tree-ID, and self-ID
    - Port connect (Suspend and Resume)
    - Present status (PHY registers)
    - Arbitration (Including Ack Accelerated and Fly-by Arbitration)
    - PHY/Link interface (including isolation barrier, timing, initialization)
    - Gap timing
    - All transmit and receive signal states
    - PHY cable packets

Interoperability

No PHY test is complete without interoperability testing. QP's inventory of PHY devices is one of the largest in the industry with over 20 different PHYs from 10 vendors. Also included in the interoperability test are a variety of different topologies including a 16-hop test.

Experience

Over the last three years QP has tested over 25 different PHY devices, developing a very good PHY test environment in the process. This experience and infrastructure delivers our customers one very important thing: TIME. With a typical test time of 2 weeks, QP can help shave months off product release schedules. First-generation proto-types may take a little longer depending on their functionality.

Root-cause analysis is the single biggest benefit QP can provide. After testing more than 25 PHY devices QP has seen a wide variety of behavior--QP understands and knows what the expected behavior should be. This experience allows QP to describe each issue in enough detail to facilitate simulations and--ultimately--to help your engineers fix the problem.

Example success story: Recently QP completed a test of a PHY device. The customer had the device for two months before asking QP to test. When the customer gave QP the device they had only six errata items. After testing for three weeks QP found 75 errata items.

Test Packages Offered

QP provides a variety of testing packages to meet our customers needs. However, if our current offering doesn't meet your testing needs please don't hesitate to ask for a custom package.


Test Package 1
Full Compliance and Interoperability Test. This includes a complete PHY compliance and interoperability test with 80 hours of root cause analysis. Weekly status reports and conference calls are provided. Customers are welcome to visit QP while testing is being done (sufficient notice is requested).

 


Test Package 2
Checklist Compliance and Interoperability Test. This includes a complete PHY compliance and interoperability test. Root cause analysis services are extra and can be purchased during or after testing. No status updates are sent, only the checklist (pass/fail) report is sent. Customer visits fall under the root cause analysis service. PHY daughter card fees are not included.

Note: Before testing PHYs must be mounted on a PHY daughter card.
