Test Fixtures, Connector and Cable Adapters

The diversity of IEEE-1394 products is great (computer, consumers, military, aerospace, industrial, automotive, etc..) therefore QP provides a variety of test fixtures, connector and cable adapters as well as custom cables to meet the market need.

Transmit Signal Integrity Test Fixtures

Data Strobe Test Fixtures

QP-SIB426, 626 or 926 - Signal Integrity Board with 4, 6 or 9 pin connector

QP-SIB426, 626, 926 enables easy connection of oscilloscope probes to 4, 6 or 9-pin 1394 devices for debug and signal integrity testing. These fixtures can be used as a simple pass through with test points connected to the differential signals for easy connection of oscilloscope probes. The fixtures also provide common mode and cable power test points.

Beta Test Fixtures

The Beta test fixtures are designed to work with either the QP-SQT or QP-SIB4B rev. C. Each test fixtures terminates the IEEE-1394b signals and provides end of transmission line test points for minimal reflections (note the device under test signals are NOT passed through the test fixture). These fixtures also provide oscilloscope probe series resistors. These resistors are required by most high speed differential probes.

The following nomincalture is used for test fixture part numbers.

TF = Test Fixture

NE = Near End (plugs into the recepticle of the device under test)

FE = Far End (plugs into the cable plug which connects to the device under test)

xx = the desired oscilliscope probe termination resistance. Example, many Agilent oscilliscope probes recommend 82 ohm while Tektronix recommends 10 ohm.

nn = 13, 22,37 or 55 (number of contacts in 38999 connector)

Automotive test fixtures

The 1394 Trade Association's 1394 Copper Automotive Standard currently defines two new twisted pair connectors. QP has test fixtures for both: HSD and USCAR.

UTP test fixtures

IEEE-1394b defines UTP cabling and QP provides both a Near and Far End test fixture for an RJ-45 connector.

Connector Adapters and Pass Through boards

 Unlike the test fixtures shown in the previous section, the connector adapters and pass through boards pass through both TPA and TPB and cable power where appropriate. As the name implies, some of these board adapt the speciality connector to the commercial 9-pin 1394b connector. While most of these boards provide oscilloscope probe connection points they are not designed as signal integrity test boards, but may be used to convenient ly observe the signals.

Cables

To facilitate the connection of  QP products like the QP-ICT and QP-SQT manufacturing speciality cables is a necessity. The cables highlighted below show QP's capability in this area. For more information please contact QP.

Cable Test Fixtures and EMI/EMC Test Boards

QP develops cable system test fixtures as well as EMI/EMC Test Boards.

QP has the ability to design impedance matched boards with the percise trace lengths required for cable system test fixtures. The USCAR test fixtures show below, highlight QP's capability in this area. For more information please contact QP.

QP has been integral in the development of several EMI/EMC test boards used by cable and connector companies to verify the EMI/EMC acceptability of their connector/cable system. Along with exact board layout, QP's FPGA design monitors the 1394 bus for bus reset, ports errors and allows for programmable port speeds. In addition, QP's modular power supply design allows for 5V or 12V battery operation. The USCAR and HSD boards show below, highlight QP's capability in this area. For more infromation please contact QP.
